For the second week running the S.C.C boys showed why they are one of the
teams challenging for promotion this season with a gutsy team performance.
The team saw yet more changes to the side with people missing and a few
tactical changes been made to strengthen the side that saw the return of
Kidger in defence and W Sykes in midfield whilst new signing Beaumont
started up front.
Both sides looked up for the game and both started brightly with S.C.C
creating more of the early chances.
However it was the home side that took the lead through a very dodgy
referring decision after firstly signalling for offside he reversed his decision
when the Holme Bridge striker had rounded Hunt and placed the ball in the
empty net much to the dislike of the S.C.C boys.
They didn’t let the early goal get to them and were soon back on level terms
after good work by Beaumont - his shot could only be parried by the Holme
Bridge keeper and the rebound fell kindly to Blakely’s feet who slotted the ball
home to make it 1-1.
Cowlersley went behind again when a very rare mistake by Hunt saw his
scuffed dead ball kick fall straight to the feet of Bridges Nº9 who placed the
ball under Hunt into the bottom corner.
S.C.C should have been back level before the break when W.Sykes went
clean through and calmly put the ball away only to have the goal disallowed
by the refs clear lack of vision leaving the score 2-1 at half time.
S.C.C came out in the second half full of energy and went at Holme Bridge
from the start and made some personnel changes by bringing Blakely off,
putting Kidger up front and Bringing Carl the wonder kid Sykes (I had to
mention him or I’d never here the end of it) on at centre half.
The boys started to make more chances but not making them count -
however it was only a matter of time before they got back on level terms and
when Parr was brought crashing to the ground inside the box the ref could
only have done one thing and awarded S.C.C a penalty. Brennan put it away
to score his second penalty in as many weeks to make it 2-2.
Cowlersley then took the lead when after a goal mouth scramble the ball fell
to Brennan who fired the ball through the crowd into the bottom corner (much
to the delight of the team, manager and travelling fans!!).
S.C.C who had defended brilliantly through the game tightened things up
even more by bringing Simpson on for McWilliams and going 5 at the back to
see the game out (Graham your nearly there - 90mins is on the cards surely).
This was a big win against a team who battled well and created problems for
the boys.
That’s now 6 out of a possible 15 points which is what Manager Bate’s had
earmarked from the lads over the next few games and so hopefully we can
get the 9 more points he wants.
